Gordon and Arkansas

There's no doubt Gordon will be the big weather story over the next several days. While this draws a lot of media attention, remember, this is a very typical tropical system and completely expected to happen this time of year.

So how will it impact you and Arkansas? The chance of this becoming a hurricane, in my opinion, is low. I could happen, but I give it a less than 50/50 chance. The big weather story will be the rainfall and several inches will be possible along and east of the path.

That path should be very close or right over Arkansas. Therefore, the chance of it influencing our weather is increasing. The focus at this time appears to be southern and western Arkansas, but other areas of the state need to pay attention to this as well.

There are times a landfalling tropical system spins up small and brief tornadoes. That chance is there, but on the low end. This will likely arrive Thursday into Friday. How long will Gordon linger? It's too early to know at this time. It's still possible for the track of this system to change so stay with Channel 7

GORDON WILL TRACK CLOSE TO OR ACROSS THE STATE. NOTICE THE MONDAY MORNING TRACK FROM THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER TAKES IT AS A DEPRESSION ACROSS SOUTHERN ARKANSAS. IF THIS VERIFIES, THAT'S WHERE THE FOCUS FOR THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL SHOULD EXIST.

THE EURO HAS BEEN VERY CONSISTENT WITH THE FOCUS OF THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL. HOWEVER, THE NEWEST RUN SHIFTS THAT A BIT FURTHER EAST INTO ARKANSAS. THIS WOULD BRING AT LEAST 3 INCHES AND LIKELY MORE TO SOME IF IT VERIFIES.

THE GFS TRACK IS A LITTLE EAST OF THE OFFICIAL TRACK AND BRINGS RAINFALL TO MOST OF THE STATE.

THE OFFICIAL FORECAST AMOUNTS FROM THE WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER FOLLOWS THE EURO FROM THE WEEKEND WITH SOUTHERN AND WESTERN ARKANSAS PICKING UP AT LEAST 2-3'' OF RAINFALL. ONCE AGAIN, THE TRACK OF THIS MEANS A LOT WHEN FORECASTING WHO GETS HOW MUCH RAINFALL.
